Glycine Drug Interactions

When certain medications are taken with glycine, drug interactions can occur. Specifically, if glycine is combined with atypical antipsychotics (such as aripiprazole, clozapine, or olanzapine), it may decrease the effectiveness of these medications. To prevent these and other interactions, do not combine these medications with glycine without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.

All of the medications listed in this article are classified as atypical antipsychotics. Although glycine is sometimes claimed to be useful for treating schizophrenia, one study showed that adding glycine supplementation to clozapine seemed to decrease the effectiveness of clozapine for schizophrenia treatment. It is assumed that this could also happen with other, similar atypical antipsychotic medications (such as the ones listed in this article). Do not combine glycine supplements with any of these medications without the approval and supervision of your healthcare provider.
