As of a few years ago, a generic
Plavix® (
clopidogrel bisulfate) drug was available in the United States. However, this product was withdrawn from the market, as it was determined that it was in violation of patent rights.
It's hard to know when a generic form of the drug will reappear in the United States. November 2011 is when the patent for Plavix expires. This is the earliest predictable date that a generic version could be expected. Assuming there are no lawsuits or other specific patents listed for Plavix, it is likely that several companies would start making a generic version at this time.
