A stroke is a sudden episode that may affect consciousness, sensation, and movement. Known medically as a cerebrovascular accident (or CVA), a stroke may occur when there is a blockage or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. Usually, symptoms of a stroke strike suddenly and can include dizziness, confusion, severe headache, trouble speaking or understanding speech, and numbness or weakness in the limbs or face. Treatment options for a stroke may include thrombolytic drugs, other medications, surgery, and rehabilitation.
