A stroke is a sudden episode that may affect consciousness, sensation, and movement. Known medically as a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), a stroke may occur when there is a blockage or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain.
 
Usually, symptoms of a stroke strike suddenly and can include dizziness, confusion, severe headache, trouble speaking or understanding speech, and numbness or weakness in the limbs or face. Treatment options may include thrombolytic drugs, other medications, surgery, and rehabilitation.
